Introducing the SonicWALL range of gateway security devices

SonicWALL's family of Internet security appliances provide the first line of defence against Internet security threats. They include an industry certified deep packet inspection firewall, a secure Virtual Private Network facility for remote access, address management features and support for SonicWALL value-added security services.

What is a firewall .... ?   A firewall could be defined as a device located at the internet gateway designed to prevent unauthorised access to or from a private network. All data packets passing through the internet gateway are examined by the firewall, those that do not meet pre-specified security criteria are blocked.

SonicWALL have a complete product range to suit literally any size of user base or organisation, entry level firewall products such as the TZ150 and TZ170 are perfectly suited to remote workers, branch offices or small businesses. At the higher end of the model range the SonicWALL Pro firewall series (Pro 2040, 3060, 4060 and 5060) is ideally equipped to meet the needs of corporate organisations where scalable and multi-site solutions are required. The SonicWALL Pro range of security devices provide greater levels of sophistication and value-added security services such as load-balancing and failover facilities along with gigabit speed data transfer, increased data encryption levels and the ability to implement network security zoning.

Even within the TZ150/TZ170 entry-level product range, security based add-on services can provide gateway anti-virus checking, intrusion prevention services and anti-spam and anti-spy ware protection. Some entry-level models are available as both wired and wireless platforms to allow for the most convenient physical location of the device within the organisation. Remote users can use the on-board Virtual Private Network capabilities to securely link to office-based applications and information, add-on management and reporting tools such as Viewpoint which enables network administrators to view statistics on staff web-browsing activities.
