Mail Control

MailControl is an external "mail washing" service provided through HBC's telecom partner Viatel. This process involves an external filtering service where mail is sent from the originating mail server and is then intercepted by a third party (Black Spider). The mail is then checked, cleaned and verified and all viruses and spam removed before being sent onwards to the recipient's mail server having effectively been "washed and cleansed".

MailControl safeguards customer IT systems by analysing all e-mail before it reaches the company network. The customer is able to define specific rules to allow through required email and to identify e-mail that should be blocked. Content filtering rules can be deployed to protect the customer by preventing confidential information being sent out of the internet gateway. Any mail that is suspected of virus infection or masquerading as Spam is held in a quarantine area for review by the customer, and both the sender and the recipient are automatically notified that the mail has been quarantined.

MailControl can be managed on-line via a customer portal, network administrators can view quarantined mail by logging-in and gaining access to the mail content, a decision can then be made to either delete the mail or release it to the recipient.

Anti-Virus

When the mail arrives at the Mail Control processing stage it is passed through 3 market leading Anti-Virus applications (McAfee, Symantec and Kaspersky) to filter out viruses, any that are detected are held in quarantine.

Anti-Spam

Mail is then measured against industry approved rules and criteria to determine if the mail could be considered to be Spam, if this proves to be the case the mail is blocked from reaching the recipient.

Content Filtering

The Content Filtering process can control many aspects of the e-mail or attachment content, attachments can be blocked by file type and size and delivery of large files can be deferred to a pre-defined time of day. E-mail can be blocked by pre-defined keywords, work patterns or images to prevent litigious or offensive content.

Management Features

MailControl provides a secure on-line customer portal so that customers retain control over the flow of mail into the company. From here on-line tracking and monitoring of mail can be observed and user policies can be created and amended, automatic notification and alert messages can also be configured.
